The Prayer - Joel Ellerbroek

The Prayer
By: Kid Cudi

The song The Prayer by Kid Cudi has a lot of meaning and depth to it. This song is about what if it is his last day, is he ready? Is he happy about what he has done here on earth. It also has a little bit of a 2 Pac influence, talking about life and how hard it is.
The whole first verse is all about how God made him special on earth for a purpose.(2) God made him on earth for one vary good per pus. That purpose is to make music and make people happy through it. He also talks about in the song, what will people remember of him after he dies? Line 4 to the end of the verse talks about how people wont remember him for what he wore or anything just his music. They will remember what his music says and the mean, words from his heart.
Verse two also has a lot of meaning to it. He talks about how at some point he feels alone but God and the world is around him so he isn’t.(13-15) He also talks about how Gods blessings on earth are are in disguise.(16) Then he goes on and says how we need to open are eyes and see what God is doing on earth. Also, how we cant hide who we are because thats not how God intended it.
The name The Prayer speaks for itself. Its all about if he were to die he is ready for heaven with God and what he has done on earth is already enough. I can see where Kid Cudi got his musical roots from. His words have a little bit of a soul r and b and hip-hop influence. I can also see where he got some influences from blues. Like the song it slow and calm with a lot of meaning but the beat is still a little hip-hop.

The Prayer

The Prayer
Kid Cudi sings out to us using elegiac to saying that God made him special here for a reason, saying he is ready to go at any moment which is a very big thing to say. The artist Tupac very much influences Kid Cudi using his inward/outward looks of a lot of Cudi's songs.
Cudi goes right in to the song with his point that God made him for a reason and purpose that is talked about in lines 2 and 3. Later on in the song “Prayer”, he explains to us that he has gone through a lot in the past of his life and has made it through. In the chorus it says “I pray the lord my soul to take, 'cuz I'm ready for a funeral.” Those words right there tell us Cudi's views on where he wants to go in the future and that's spending life with God. Who knows whether or not this is just a song or this is really his true personal, religious views on things.
The whole song explains how he wants us to view him as the truth is universal. He explains that everyone goes through different things in there life but you just need to keep fighting for what you want and in this case Kid Cudi wants his soul to go to the Lord. Just these things that Cudi sings about is in relation to Tupac's songs and lyrics is because he sings about his past and stuff in his other songs as well. Also Cudi tells us the today life and social parts of today just like how Tupac did when he was still singing and alive.
Kid Cudi uses hyper bole in both lines 21 and 22, “Girls that I dated, it's ok I am not mad yo, unless you stabbed me in the heart, no love ho.” You can tell how he exagerates to get his points across because I don't think that this is how he would treat a girl first of all and second he wouldn't get that hurt by a women that it'd feel like getting stabbed in the heart. The heart and soul of Kid Cudi is just basically the fact that he is living his life to the fullest and is having a good time with it too, but also on the other hand he will be ready to go when his time comes and “knows” where he is headed we are told.
